For those of you who have kids or are still a big kid at heart I can remember the countdown for Christmas was always a fun and exciting time of year. Now I will be honest that in my house as a kid the focus was not on Jesus and that is something we are working to do in our house now, but it was still an exciting time.
When I was young to help countdown my mom had a paper chimney with Santa on top that had a little box for each day until the 25th. Being an only child and being well lets just say it up front, spoiled rotten, my mom did not just fill the little boxes with candy often there were notes leading me to another destination where I would find my treasure for the day. It was fun and I can still remember the excitement every morning to see what I would find.
Since we have had children we have done various things to countdown to Christmas. One is something that William's mom made where each day there is a felt symbol that goes along with some scripture and part of the Christmas story. We have enjoyed doing that. We have also used the store bought chocolate countdowns, but with four kids old enough to do it, it can get expensive. That is when I remembered something a friend showed me a few years ago. She makes her own by taking saran wrap and kisses and bundling them in a long chain with 24 compartments to count down.
Now I am sure of my artsy friends will have a more elaborate way of doing this, but for the craft challenged and for those of us who are like the kids just want the candy who cares what it looks like this will work.
Just thought I would share,we used some old stocking holders to display it and already the kids are excited.
Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday Jesus.
